HAC v1.16 with RSS news reading

HAC v1.16 released for Windows (2nd November 2012 )

This update adds parsing of News Feeds(RSS), transparent fields plus better debugging during HAC startup. There are also some memory usage improvements and some minor bug fixes.

The News Feed functionality supports both RSS and Atom formats. It also allows feeds from both URLs and files to be parsed. It can cope with huge feeds and allows the user to skip unwanted articles and just store the sequence they need.

The HAC startup debugging makes it much easier for users with installation problems to find out where the problem is.

For further details see the release notes accompanying HAC and the posts listed in our forums.

HAC apps can run on Android OS API 1.6 up to the latest 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

This update adds SQLite database support, status bar notifications, fullscreen mode, AES cypher, Base 64, Toast Message and some further boolean/conversion functions. There are also memory performance improvements and some bug fixes.

The SQLite database functions can work either with database files on an app’s internal protected file space or on the external SD card.

HAC apps can run on Android OS API 1.6 up to the latest 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

HAC v1.13 with Kindle Fire update

HAC v1.13 released for Windows (17th Mar 2012 )

This update brings many improvements to HAC and HAC created apps running on both standard Android devices and Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

The Persistant Storage option now works. This allows an app upon quitting to automatically save all its variables/fields so that on restarting they can be automatically reloaded thus saving the programmer a lot of work.

There are some major improvements including fixing screen orientation, better detection of status bar height plus several bug fixes.

Extra functionality include 4 new functions for fast array searching and 30 commands/functions for operating on Binary files.

Improvements directed at the Kindle fire include better use of its screen area and the ability to use up to 800×800 icons for the carousel. Also apps are now fully refreshed after being sent to the background such as might happen when the user activated another app or pressed the Home or Back buttons on the Options Bar.

HAC v1.12 with Easy Installer

This update greatly simplifies the installation of HAC and the Android SDK. It also adds some improvements and bug fixes.
HAC users now have the option of using an Easy Installer that can set up HAC and a basic Android SDK in 10 minutes or less depending upon the user’s internet connection speed.

Improvements
During HAC’s first and subsequent runs it is now better at finding the paths to the Android SDK.
A new menu option “Android Emulators” now makes it easier to set up Emulators (also called AVDs).
An important bug has been fixed for non-English Windows systems that affected signing apps with a Private Key.

HAC Installers
As mentioned above there are now two installers available for HAC.
The previous HAC Installer (now called Standard) required the user to either have the Android SDK already setup or to install it themselves. For beginner programers setting up the Android SDK can be daunting as it has many options and can take a few hours to download and fully install.

(1) Standard Installer is about 14MB in size and just installs HAC.
This should be used if you already have the Android SDK installed in your Program Files directory, you are happy with your current Android SDK installation or you are confident in your ability to install the Android SDK.

(2) Easy Installer is about 140MB in size and installs both HAC and a basic Android SDK.
It should be used if the Android SDK is not already installed and you want to get HAC running as quickly as possible. The Android SDK installed by this Easy Installer just installs API 9 (Gingerbread) but can be updated to include the latest or even older APIs.

For further details see the release notes accompanying HAC and the posts listed in our forums.

HAC v1.10 for Multilingual Android Apps

This update allows HAC to build Android apps that can work in languages other than English.

It includes a HAC project for building a multiscreen Android app that displays the various controls in English, Greek, Russian, Japanese, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional. This app should run on any Android device and still correctly display the different language texts. There is a demo of this app on our Project web page that can be downloaded directly onto an Android device, http://www.hypernextandroid.com/hnfiles/rescreator.html

Currently HAC built Android apps just use the active keyboard and localisation although the user can change it via the user preferences, the app itself cannot yet change them.

Note, the text HAC displays on your PC is dependent upon the language localisation and fonts in your Microsoft Windows operating system.

For further details see the release notes accompanying HAC and the posts listed in our forums.

HAC v1.09 for non-English Windows

This update has concentrated on allowing HAC to work with non-English Microsoft Windows operating systems. It hasn’t added any extra functionality to the Android apps it can build.

Prior to this version HAC would only work on a non-English Windows system if it were installed in a folder whose file-path was valid, that is consisted of just ASCII characters. If the file-path was invalid then HAC wouldn’t run properly and would probably crash at startup.

Note, there is still a limitation on non-English Windows systems in that projects should still be placed in a valid file-path otherwise the graphic routines within HAC can have problems. However, this limitation doesn’t affect the building or running of projects on Emulators and Android devices.

For the time being HAC apps still cannot display non-English character sets but we are working on this.

For further details see the release notes accompanying HAC and the posts listed in our forums.

HAC v1.08 with GPS

V1.08 adds 51 new commands including functions for finding location from GPS and Mobile Network, new card commands and event queue monitoring.

This update also fixes a bug that prevented HAC apps running properly on the Galaxy Tab and some other Android devices. The bug caused a  startup error when the app tried to access the device’s internal orientation sensor. It has now been fixed and hasn’t affected the orientation detection and automatic screen redrawing.

GPS functionality has been added so HAC apps can actively run in the background and obtain location data from Satellite and Mobile networks. Programmers can specify whether to use GPS and or Mobile network to receive location data as often a Mobile Network is not available or else the user does not wish to incur network charges.

The new Card commands and functions make it easier for your app to keep track of its cards. As in HyperCard, HyperNext cards  are really screens and are much easier to create and switch than with the traditional Java development approach.

Programmers can now monitor how many events are in the app’s HyperNext event queue and flush the queue if it becomes overloaded.

The Editfield control has also been improved and an app’s memory requirements reduced.

For a list of improvements see the release notes accompanying HAC and the posts listed in our forums.
